Catherine Slemp, M.D., M.P.H.

National Preparedness and Response Science Board Member

Dr. Cathy Slemp is in private practice as a public health consultant working with organizations at state and national levels. Her experience includes leadership positions in state health agencies and work with advisory committees and organizations at national, state, and local levels. Among other activities, Dr. Slemp chairs the Stakeholder Communications Workgroup for the National Health Security Preparedness Index and is a member of the National Biodefense Science Board.

From 2002-2011, Dr. Slemp served as State Health Officer with the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health. Concurrently, she served as the state’s Emergency Preparedness Director, directing preparedness programs and leading public health agency responses, including the state’s response to the 2009 influenza pandemic. In addition, she founded the state’s Division of Infectious Disease Epidemiology. Dr. Slemp is board certified in both Public Health - Preventive Medicine and Family Practice.
