Tammy Spain, Ph.D.

National Preparedness and Response Science Board Member

Dr. Tammy Spain a molecular biologist with over 12 years of experience in leading R&D teams in the development of chemical and biological defense technologies for military and homeland security applications. Her experience has been primarily in the private sector as a scientific and engineering team leader involved in the translation of promising inventions into fieldable systems. Tammy has served on teams at Constellation Technology Corporation and Field Forensics, Inc. to develop three biological detection systems that have been field tested at the West Desert Test Center, Dugway Proving Ground and one device that is marketed today as the E.L.I.T.E. EL-100, an explosives detection kit in use by such organizations as the FBI, USSOCOM and various NATO militaries. More recently, at Draper Laboratory, she has been engaged in the development of research and therapeutic devices for military and biomedical applications. Dr. Spain has a Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University and she currently lives in Tampa, Florida.
