Key Accomplishments: HHS emPOWER Initiative
Key Accomplishments: HHS emPOWER Initiative
Main Content
Created the nation’s first interactive map that integrates big data on health care, real-time weather data, and GIS to help communities prepare for the needs of over 2.5 million people who rely on electricity-dependent medical equipment and other critical medical devices in every zip code.
Leading up to Hurricane Matthew’s landfall, state health officials used emPOWER data to conduct lifesaving outreach to more than 30,000 people at risk in the storm’s path.
Health officials in 43 states, 5 territories, and 3 cities accessed emPOWER data about the types of medical equipment and home health care services used in their communities to plan for the emergency needs of 3.8 million at-risk Americans.
