​Nancy Nurthen currently serves as the Director of the Fusion Division within the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) at the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

The Fusion Division integrates data from internal and external sources to provide analytical decision support to OEM and ASPR during public health or disaster related emergency response events.

Prior to coming to DHHS, Ms. Nurthen was a Science and Technology Manager in the Diagnostics, Detection and Disease Surveillance Division of the Joint Science and Technology Office (JSTO) of the Chemical and Biological Defense Program (CBDP), housed at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). She managed a portfolio that focused on biosurveillance data fusion and epidemiological modeling tools, and was the lead for DTRA's innovative

Biosurveillance Ecosystem (BSVE) program.  As a contractor at DTRA, Ms. Nurthen was a Reachback Scientist in DTRA's 24/7/365 Technical Reachback Center. In this position, Ms. Nurthen served as a subject matter expert in the field of epidemiology, provided CBRNE analytic support to DTRA customers, and specialized in the development and testing of modeling and simulation tools. Ms. Nurthen received her Master of Public Health degree in Epidemiology from George Washington University in 2005.
