Providing Medical Care

When a disaster strikes and overwhelms a community, the ASPR Office of Emergency Management (OEM) provides medical care and delivers medical supplies to assist state and local communities in treating people affected by the event.  The National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) is a federally coordinated system that supports communities that have been impacted by a disaster by providing various medical services.  NDMS also provides domestic patient care support during military incidents as well as assisting the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs in caring for casualties from conflicts conducted overseas. Delivering Medical Supplies and Equipment OEM’s Division of Logistics manages and provides the critical logistical supporting components for NDMS and other HHS public health and medical teams to respond, and ensures that the right equipment is where it is needed to provide an effective response.
