Site Use during a Public Health Emergency

Welcome to the federal Public Health Emergency home page.

During a federally declared disaster, public health and medical emergency or other significant emergency event, the Emergency tab will become the default home page of the Public Health Emergency site and act as the central portal for all federal public health risk communications and situational awareness information.  Federal Partners from across the government have contributed links and information to this site to quickly direct you to the public health web sites that will best assist you with your health needs related to the specific public health and medical emergency.

During a federally declared incident this site will be directly accessible from the Health & Safety link on the Federal Response widget. The Federal Response widget created by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will be updated by DHS in the event of an emergency to direct you to key information portals developed to support public messaging during the emergency. During an emergency all Federal government and supporting public health sites will carry this widget on their sites to quickly direct the public to this site for public health situation awareness and public health risk related information.
During times of non-emergency, this site will provide the public with access to background information on known sources of potential man-made and natural disasters.  Information for the media and other public health communicators related to how to communicate public health risk in an emergency can also be found here.
