Public Health Emergency - Leading a Nation Prepared
The following is a text alternative description for the
Project BioShield: Accelerating Medical Countermeasure Development and Ensuring Availability.
[The video begins with BARDA Director Rick Bright, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response - U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, explaining how Project BioShield is used to accelerate the development of medical countermeasures (mcm) and ensure they are available in a disaster.]
Rick Bright, PhD: Project BioShield is our commitment to accelerate product development and ensure availability of those products for Americans. In BARDA, we strive to expand the utility of existing commercial products for emergency use against national security threats whenever possible. That's the most effective approach. It's better for the taxpayer. It's better for the healthcare providers, emergency responders, patients. And ultimately, this greatly imprves our nation's preparedness. The future for Project BioShield is to broaden our commitment to ensure medical countermeasures are available in America's darkest hour. With Project BioShield and our partners, we can take health security threats off the table and save many lives.
